Mandalay - an enchanting lakeside villa, Koggala

Mandalay is a magical, private villa set in lush greenery, overlooking the Koggala Lake. The old villa was recently renovated, wit some modifications by Geoffrey Bawa, the renowned Sri Lankan architect. This minimalist, stylish villa possesses a real feel of country living in harmonious surroundings - the open air dining pavilion overlooks the pool and the lake is a great place to sit with a sundowner.

ROOMS
The villa consisting of three double rooms, is built to a fully open concept, appreciating nature and solitude. The rooms are spacious and simple, yet charming and are furnished with antiques. The rooms have ceiling fans and plenty fresh breeze to keep you cool; as well as air-con in all the bedrooms. The master bedroom, which consists of the entire second storey, has a bathtub in the room but also has an open air bathroom adjoining. The balcony opening up to the master bedroom gives great views of the lake and the surrounding greenery. Once in a while you can spot a train on the hanging railway across the river.

Dining and common areas
Enjoy a meal in the open dining area overlooking the lake. There are many places in the villa where you can enjoy a drink or simply relax and enjoy the views. Have a swim in your own private pool or enjoy the sunset and a boat ride in the lake. Staff at the villa consist of a room boy, a cook and a night watcher. The accomplished chef can create you delicious Sri Lankan delicacies and can also prepare a wide range of western dishes too...you decide!

There are plenty of things to do around the area - explore the local culture and history and take a walk around Galle Fort, a living World Heritage Site. A short tuk-tuk ride away is beautiful Unawatuna beach, which has many good restaurants and beach bars...or just make the most of Mandalay, enjoy a dip in the private pool or grab a book, settle down and enjoy the solitude.
